Danforth Jr. High Newsletter
May 22, 2023
Principal’s Message
Well, here we are in the last week of the 2022-2023 school year. Although it is a very busy time for everyone– finals, schedules, events, and upcoming summer plans–I appreciate you taking a few minutes to read this last newsletter of the school year.
Back in January I mentioned my personal theme for the year: gratitude. With that in mind, I’d like to thank all the Danforth families, for your support and trust and communication this year. When things were great, you would boost us up and let us know. When things were not so great, you would reach out to us in a spirit of collaboration: “Give me some more information so I can understand this situation or this policy,” or “How can we work together to make this better?” Through the highs and lows of the year, I feel like our school staff and our school families worked together to keep a shared priority in mind: the success and safety of our kids.
I am so grateful to our DJH PTO. Our PTO President, Yllisia Allen, went above and beyond for our staff and our students. Her communication and ideas helped so many parents through the transition to junior high. Our PTO volunteers came through in flying colors, making sure our kids and staff members had what they needed for both working and celebrating throughout the year. Thank you to our WISD Texan Watch volunteers, for committing to helping keep our building safe and monitored during pep rallies, assemblies, and events.
It is easy to find things to be grateful for around here! It’s also easy for many of our students to be excited about the upcoming break, and maybe a little less focused on usual school expectations and rules. This is a great time for parents to remind their students to remember and respect campus rules and to help ensure that our last few days are safe and successful. As Mrs. Huebner and I have reminded our students, Code of Conduct violations will still have consequences in these last days, and possibly into next school year. We want our students to make great choices, do their best on final exams, and finish the year strong!
Of course I also want to thank our Danforth staff members and students. We’ve spent so much time together over the last 9 months, and we have so many shared experiences.
This group of DJH students will always hold a special place in my heart, since this has been my first year as Danforth principal. I know they may be ready to race into summer break, but for now, I am grateful just to experience these last few school days with them. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for entrusting us to educate and care for them throughout this school year.
I wish your family a wonderful summer break, and a great start to the next school year!

The following information is important to consider if your student has multiple failing grades on 6-weeks reports:
To pass a course for the year, a student must obtain a final average grade of 70. Failing one or two core courses (not electives) would require the student to attend summer school. The cost of summer school is $75 and it will be offered from June 5-22, from 8:00am-12:00pm, Monday through Thursday. Parents will be contacted by 4:00pm on May 31 if their student will be required to attend summer school.
