Danforth Jr. High Newsletter
Monday, Sept. 20th, 2021
Principal’s Message
Throughout the school year we have various drills for our students and staff that are designed to help all of us know the best way to respond in the event of an emergency. Those of you reading this probably remember fire drills or tornado drills you had when you were in school. Tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 21st) we’ll have a Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Drill here at the Jr. High. These SRP drills have been done in schools for a few years now and they are an excellent way for us to know how to lock down the school if needed. Our current students are probably somewhat familiar with how they work but they could always use a good refresher. And for those new to the drill, they’ll see a large number of Hays County emergency vehicles around our building from roughly 8:30 am to 10:00 am. But it’s only a drill and parents, guardians and students have no reason to be concerned. The drill itself usually takes about 15 minutes and then we’ll go on about our day.
Thanks for taking a look at the Newsletter.

Our students have done a good job of bringing their own water bottles so far this year but I have no run out of extras to pass out when someone leaves theirs at home. Please remind your child to bring their own each day. Thank you.

Danforth has a National Junior Honor Society chapter for students in 8th grade. Students who are academically eligible for NJHS membership consideration will be given an application packet by Friday, September 24, 2021.
Eligibility is determined by the following: A combined average of 90.0 or above based upon the four core subjects of math, science, history and English in 6th grade and 7th grade. In addition to the GPA requirement, students must also have successfully completed at least one honors course in 7th grade. This serves as the first step in our selection procedure.
Students who meet the minimum requirements are eligible to submit additional information for consideration by the chapter’s Faculty Council which will carefully review their credentials. In addition to the scholarship standard, membership in NJHS is also based on standards of leadership, service, citizenship and character. To be selected as a member of NJHS, students must demonstrate on their Candidate Form that they have met or exceeded these additional standards. Please note that If your child is new to Danforth and already an NJHS member, please send a copy of your child's certificate to Mrs. Gill or Mrs. Royal.
The deadline for submitting the completed form is 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2021. This is a strict deadline. Late forms will not be accepted. Submit your application to Mrs. Gill in room 120 or Mrs. Royal in room 208. Candidates will be notified of the results of the selection committee no later than Thursday, October 7, 2021. If you meet eligibility requirements, there will be an induction on Tuesday evening, October 19, 2021.
If you have any questions regarding NJHS or the selection process, you can contact Mrs. Gill at teresa.gill@wimberleyisd.net or Mrs. Royal at nicole.royal@wimberleyisd.net.
