Principal’s Message

Somewhere in our house is a box with a photo album of every “first day of school” photo of our son and daughter. Matt graduated from WHS in 2006 and Sara in 2008. That collection of photos is, among other things, a reflection of growth, clothing styles and hair styles from what now seems like a bygone era.

I don’t know how different your 2020 “first day of school” photo for your 6th, 7th or 8th grader will look but they’ll sure feel a lot different than last year. You may snap a photo on Wednesday, August 19th and watch them go right back to their room and the 2020 school year will be officially underway. Regardless of whether they chose Option 1 or Option 2 they’ll need to log in and connect virtually with their 1st period teacher on the 19th at 8 am. And our Option 3 (Asynchronous) students will just log in to their Google Classroom and start their day on their own schedule that day. And while we hope all of this technology will work as advertised, we know there will be some glitches here and there. When that happens we’ll make adjustments and move forward to the place that meets your child’s and your family’s needs.

Technology challenges aside, I can guarantee you this much, our teachers are excited about this opportunity. As I walked around our school building last week I certainly ran across some teacher anxiety about how all this will work. But that anxiety was quickly replaced with excitement. Teachers are VERY EXCITED to connect again with students. That connection will look different on the first day (August 19th) than it’s ever looked and it will look different again on the first in-person day on Sept. 8th. What will not look different from the past is our teacher’s heart to teach and serve and lead their students through another school year.

So let’s get started on August 19th …………and get those first day photos……..they’re going to be worth finding someday in the digital file you have in the cloud…….or maybe you just used an old shoe box.
They’ll be nice to look at regardless of where you find them.
