Danforth Jr. High Newsletter
Monday, Sept. 16, 2019
We work to make the heart and soul of this campus the relationships that our staff has with students and parents. One of the ways we hope to connect with students is “talking” directly to them about a variety of topics that are important to their health and safety. Of course this happens in classrooms from time to time when it matches up with the curriculum but we also have quick “talks” with groups of students throughout the school year. This week marks the beginning of some of those talks. However these conversations are not some sort of lengthy all day symposium delving deep into these topics. We address topics quickly and talk about solutions or better choices. It is our hope these “talks” will spark healthy conversations at home with the added benefit that students will know those of us here at school are a resource as well. Lori Pharis (Danforth Counselor) and Amy Lyles (WISD Counselor) will typically lead these conversations and I’ll join in as well. The first topics we’ll cover will be about the mental health supports we provide and also the acceptable use of social media. These meetings will take place in our library during Texan Time (8:55 am – 9:20 am). Parents are always welcome to listen in on these conversations if they’d like. Here is the schedule for the grade level meetings.
