Danforth Jr. High Newsletter

Principal’s Message
Our first six weeks ends on Sept. 20th. Several years ago parents or guardians would have to wait for a paper report to make its way home to see their child’s average from a completed six weeks. However, all of today’s technology has allowed parents DAILY access to their child’s grades. That has turned the “Report Card” into one of the relics of the past. Of course some folks like the good old days and they’d rather keep that paper copy. If that’s you, let us know here in the office and we’ll send that home at the end of the grading period. However, we’ve found that the overwhelming majority of parents these days are simply checking grades online and have no need for a paper copy of what they’ve already checked on. So as we sit here just a couple of weeks from the end of this first six weeks we hope you’re in touch with teachers concerning any difficulties your child may be having in an academic area. We’d really love for you to be in touch whether there is an issue or not. We just want to continue to work with you to help your child achieve success here at Danforth.

Thanks for taking a look at our Newsletter.
Greg Howard, Principal

Danforth has a National Junior Honor Society chapter for students in 8th grade. Students who are academically eligible for consideration for membership in NJHS will be given application packets by Wednesday, September 11. Eligibility is determined by your child’s cumulative grade point average which must meet or exceed our chapter’s standard for scholarship currently set at 90 based upon the four core subjects of math, science, history and English. This serves as the first step in our selection procedure. Students are now eligible to submit additional information for consideration by the chapter’s Faculty Council which will carefully review their credentials. In addition to the scholarship standard, membership in NJHS is also based on standards of leadership, service, citizenship and character. To be selected as a member of NJHS, students must demonstrate on their Candidate Form that they have met or exceeded these additional standards. The deadline for submitting the completed form is 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 17. This is a strict deadline. Late forms will not be accepted. Turn your forms in directly to Mrs. Gill, NJHS Adviser in room 200. Candidates will be notified of the results of the selection committee no later than Tuesday, September 24. If you meet eligibility requirements, you will be inducted into NJHS on the evening of Tuesday, October 8. If you have any questions regarding NJHS or the selection process, you can contact Mrs. Gill at teresa.gill@wimberleyisd.net or Mrs. Royal at nicole.royal@wimberleyisd.net.
