For the fourth consecutive season, the Wimberley HS Lady Texan basketball team advanced to the 4A State Playoffs while competing in what has been one of the toughest 4A districts in the state. The Lady Texans finished the season with a 25-13 overall record, which included a 5-7 mark in rigorous District 27-4A (one competing team from WHS's district has qualified for the state tournament in each of the last four seasons). The Lady Texans tied for the final playoff spot in district play with Davenport HS, forcing a playoff play-in game. WHS dominated the match-up, winning by 27 points, 62-35, setting up a bi-district matchup against La Vernia HS. The Lady Texans fell in that game, 46-69, concluding their season.
The 22-23 season got off to a quick start for the Lady Texans with a tournament championship at Gregory-Portland in November and a solid showing at the home Hoopfest tournament. The final non-district record for the team was 19-6. In district play, the Lady Texans swept through Bandera, Canyon Lake, and Davenport with the exception of a 2 point loss to Davenport. In those six games, including the one loss, the Lady Texans outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points per game. Unfortunately, they were swept by perennial powers Boerne (state semifinalist), Fredericksburg (regional finalist), and Navarro (regional quarterfinalists) in the other half of district play.
The Lady Texans team was extremely young, with no seniors and boasting three sophomores as its top-three scorers. Leading the way for the team was sophomore Campbell Woodward, who led the team in scoring (13.6 points per game), and was second in rebounding (6.3 per game). Sophomore guard Lily Dela Rosa was also a standout, leading the team in steals (3.1 per game), assists (2.3 per game) and finishing second on the team with 11.3 points per game. Both Woodward and Dela Rosa were named First-Team All-District in 27-4A. Sophomore Laney Hennessee led the team in rebounds (8.4 per game) and was second with 63 total steals. She also contributed 6.2 points per game, which was third on the team. Hennessee was named Second Team All-District. Junior Baylee Gold also received district honors, as she was named to the Honorable Mention team. Gold averaged 4.6 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and collected 61 steals.
The Lady Texans were led by head coach Caleb Hall and assistants Ryan Durkin and Jacqueline Johnson.
