Holiday Store Serves WISD Students
December 7, 2020
For the fourth consecutive year WISD parent and community volunteer Shari Skaggs is spearheading a holiday shop for WISD students that are in need of a little extra help. The shop is located in the WISD Admin building and features new and gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, and other stocking stuffers. The items are graciously donated from Wimberley Valley community members and local businesses such as Annie James, Vintage Lily, My Happy Place, Wimberley Marketplace, HEB, and others. "With all that's going on this year, we were curious how many donations we would receive, but this has been our biggest year yet," Skaggs said. "The community response and especially the amount we've received from WISD staff members has been amazing."
Students are "nominated" by school staff to participate in the store, where they can pick out items for themselves or family members at no cost. "It's such a rewarding experience getting to meet the students who come in and hear their stories," Skaggs said. "They're so resilient and it's wonderful to be able to end 2020 on such a positive note."
Even after the conclusion of the holiday shop on December 11, Skaggs and her group of volunteers will continue to accept donations and make those items available to students through a partnership with a local consignment shop. If you would like to help out with a donation of clothing or other items or a financial gift, please contact Shari at 469-644-3741.
