The Wimberley HS Cheer team placed 10th at the 4A-II UIL State Spirit competition on Friday, January 5th at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The final results represents the best-ever finish for a WHS Cheer team at the competition.
The team competed in the qualifying round with 52 other squads.The teams are judged in three categories: Fight Song, Band Chant, and Crowd Leading. In the Fight Song category, WHS scored 51.55, placing them 21st in that category. In Band Chant they received a score of 44.25, which was 12th-best. Finally, in Crowd Leading, they scored 71.10, which was 11th. The team's total score of 166.90 was 10th-best, easily qualifying them among the 20 teams that moved on to perform again in the final round.
Later that evening, in finals, the WHS team ranked 15th with an average score of 37.53 in the Crowd Leading category and in the combined category of Band Chant/Fight Song they earned the 7th-highest mark with a 43.27. The total of 80.80 was what awarded WHS the 10th place mark.
The UIL Spirit competition is relatively new, having been held nine times since its first event in 2016. WHS has qualified for finals once before, in 2022, finishing 18th overall. The cheer team is led by head coach Sierra Krauskopf, and assistant coach Julie Arevalo. Members of the cheer team are:
