Texan Football Team Members Earn 2022 Postseason Honors

Multiple members of the 4A-II State Finalist Wimberley Texan football team have been recognized with postseason honors. A total of 29 players were named to the all-district team, including many who were recognized on both offense and defense. In addition, Wimberley won five of the district superlative awards. The District 13-4A-II honors are:

Offensive MVP
RB Johnny Ball, sr. - Finished with 1,483 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Also compiled 179 receiving yards. Ball shined during the Texans' playoff run, amassing 806 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in the six playoff games.

Defensive MVP
DB Lane Patek, sr. - Leader of the Texans "Code Red" defense which allowed opponents to average only 15.6 points per game, including five shutouts. Also contributed 129 receiving yards and 2 TDs on offense, 361 punt return yards, and 72 kick return yards. Patek was also named to the Second Team Defense on the Austin American-Statesman's All-Central Texas Team.

Newcomer of the Year
QB Cody Stoever, so. - Completed 63% of his passes for 2,441 yards and 31 touchdowns, with nine interceptions. Added 1,170 yards rushing, with 20 rushing TDs. Also named Newcomer of the Year on the Austin American-Statesman and Scorebook Live's All-Central Texas teams.

Offensive Lineman MVP
OT Caden Romo, jr. - Anchored the offensive line that paved the way for nearly 3,700 yards on the ground and another 2,700 through the air, averaging over 400 yards per game. Named Third Team All-Central Texas by Scorebook Live.

Coaching Staff of the Year
Wimberley HS - Head Coach Doug Warren completed his tenth season leading the Texans. The 2022 team tied the school record with 15 wins. During the season, the Texans won the team's second consecutive district championship. Coach Warren was also named the Texas High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year for 4A Region 8 and assistant Dane Saucier was named 4A Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year.

To be nominated for the THSCA Academic All-State team, a student must be:

  • An athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team
  • Of good moral character
  • A senior
  • Have an overall grade point average of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9-11 and courses completed from grade 12). Weighted GPAs accepted.
