WHS Speech & Debate Team Opens Season at La Vernia Meet

The Wimberley HS Speech and Debate team opened its season at La Vernia HS's Bear Brawl meet on Saturday, September 10th. Seven Texan students competed at the meet, highlighted by a first place finish by juniors Josh Bober and Kathryn McKinney (pictured) in the Cross Examination (CX) Debate event.
Senior Azula Hunter-Thiam competed in the Dramatic Interpretation event, advancing to finals and finishing in fifth place. There were a total of 46 competitors in the event. Azula also advanced to the semifinals round in the Prose Interpretation event, as did sophomore Gage Trudeau.
Sophomore Sophia Vitela represented WHS in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate event and finished 2-1, missing the cut-off to advance to the quarterfinals round by only 1.6 points. She finished in 16th place out of 36 competitors.
Also competing for WHS was the brother-sister duo of junior Alex Caldwell and sophomore Rachel Caldwell. They finished 1-2 in CX debate and placed 15th out of 20 teams.
