Ten From Texan Baseball Named to All-District Team

June 6, 2022

Ten members of the Wimberley HS baseball team were named to the District 28-4A All-District team for the 2022 season. The Texans finished the season with a 16-12 overall record and were the third-place finisher in District 28-4A. They advanced to the area round of the playoffs, defeating Navarro HS two games to one in the bi-district playoff series, before losing to state-qualifying Sinton HS 13-1 and 9-8 in the area series. The Texans played Sinton tough in the series despite the outcome, scoring the second-most runs against the 34-1 Pirates all year long. On its way to qualifying for the state tournament, Sinton outscored its opponents 84-11, with Wimberley scoring 9 of the 11 runs.

Of its 10 All-District honorees, the Texans had five on the First-Team: pitcher Ruger Riojas, catcher Kyler Lai, second-baseman Lane Patek, left-fielder Josh Prado and center-fielder Dylan Kincaid. First-baseman Ethan Lancaster, third-baseman Will Norris, shortstop Hagen Donley, and right-fielder Chase Carson were named to the Second-Team. Pitcher Landon Gary rounded out the selections as an Honorable Mention pick.

Seven of the honorees were seniors for the Texans and led the team in various categories:

  • Riojas led the team in triples, strikeouts thrown, and earned run average.
  • Prado led the team in doubles, runs, and walks.
  • Kincaid led the team in homeruns.
  • Lancaster led the team in runs batted in.
  • Norris led the team in hard-hit balls.
  • Donley led the team in hits and stolen bases.

The Texan baseball team was led by head coach Stephen Wisdom and assistants Dean Bagby and Michael Houser.
