Lady Texan Volleyball Team's Successful Season Ends in Regional Final

The Wimberley High School Lady Texan Volleyball team's season ended in the Region IV final in a 5-set match versus Needville HS. The Lady Texans finished 34-8 on the season and were one of the final eight teams left in 4A.
The Lady Texans swept through District 28-4A, clinching the program's fourth consecutive district title with a 10-0 league mark. In bi-district Wimberley swept Cuero HS 25-17, 25-13, 25-11, in area they dispatched Sinton 25-14, 25-12, 25-11, and in the regional quarterfinals they defeated district rival Fredericksburg 25-18, 25-16, 27-29, 25-22.
In the regional tournament, the Lady Texans defeated Tuloso-Midway HS in the semifinals 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19. The regional final against Needville was a back-and-forth match with Wimberley winning the first set 30-28, but dropping the next two 18-25 and 21-25. The Lady Texans battled back to tie the match winning the fourth set 25-22, before losing set five 12-15.
During the season the Lady Texans were led by senior Paige Crawford who accumulated 535 kills on the season, along with 450 digs, 40 blocks, and 53 aces. Crawford, who has committed to continuing her volleyball career in college at Wake Forest University, surpassed 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs during the season. Senior middle blocker Cameren Davis was also a standout as she was second on the team with 248 kills, and led the team in blocks (53) and was tied for the team lead in aces (53). Senior Layla Dubuisson was third on the team in kills with 170, followed by junior Maddy Harris (162) and freshman Laney Hennessee (143). Junior Emily Thames was second on the team in digs with 402, Harris was third with 308, and sophomore Jessie Weeks was fourth with 235. Weeks led the team in assists with 707 and was third in aces with 51. Senior Ellie Marko's 443 assists was second on the team.
The 2020 Lady Texan Volleyball team advanced all the way to the 4A state final, before falling to Decatur HS. The team is led by head coach Stephanie Barthels and assistant coaches Katie Gillman, Roberto Frontera, and Cady Bargfrede.
