WHS Debaters Qualify for State Tournament; Team Wins District
January 22, 2021
The Wimberley High School Debate team placed first at the district Cross Examination (CX) Debate meet held on January 21. Leading the team were first place finishers Daniel Morgan and Daniela Perez. Jackson Delhagen and Rex Kidd finished in fourth place and the team of Elysia Becken and Evieleigh Jennings placed eighth out of the 11 competing teams.
Due to the COVID pandemic the first place team out of each district advances to the state meet, meaning seniors Morgan and Perez will move on to the state level competition on March 19-20. Both Morgan and Perez had previously qualified for the upcoming state UIL competition in the Congress event and both have earned enough Texas Forensics Association (TFA) points to qualify for the state TFA CX meet as well. The combo of Delhagen and Kidd have also earned enough points to compete at the TFA CX state meet.
The UIL district meet for all other Academic and Speech and Debate events will be held March 26-27. The WHS Debate team is coached by Kyla Brookshier-DeLeon.
