Ag Barn Officially Opens its Doors

Wimberley, Texas, November 6, 2019—Wimberley ISD students, parents, teachers, board members and administrators gathered at the new agriculture barn on Nov. 6, to officially open the facility, completed just in time for livestock show season. FFA officers cut the ribbon and welcomed everyone into the spacious 6,000 square-foot building. It got a thumbs up from parents who walked in for a tour, and a warm reception from Bubbles and other sheep.

The FFA program is thriving at Wimberley ISD with some 130 students participating in the opportunity to raise sheep, steers, goats, pigs and rabbits in competitions throughout the school year. The new barn is an upgrade to the existing facilities and includes an animal wash area, concrete drive -through access, an open floor plan, flexible animal cages, a lean-to for covered pens and a new fenced area surrounding the campus' agricultural program.

"Wimberley ISD students and teachers are really excited about this new facility and so are the board members and administrators. This barn is a welcome addition to the Wimberley High School campus as it provides students with the most modern tools and resources to keep and care for their animals," said Dwain York, Wimberley ISD Superintendent of Schools.

Freshman students are especially excited that the new barn will be available to them during their entire high school career.

"We're all excited about it. It's going to be so much fun to have a new barn to work and keep our animals," said Haley Ronshausen, WHS freshman and FFA member.

Ronshausen will show market steers and lambs this year. The barn was part of the 2018 $45.5 million bond package passed by voters. The cost of the facility was $667,000. It is on the WHS campus by both the Agriculture and Career, Technology Education Building.
