Creativity, problem-solving skills, critical thinking and being a team player are all qualities that lead to success in school and life. They are also all the skills and abilities that Jacob’s Well Elementary students have proven to possess, as the team won first place in the Regional Destination Imagination Competition in Austin. The team, comprised of fourth grade students, Ivie Keese, Jack Malone, Meadow Cryar, Quintin Buchanan, Bennett Youens and Pete Myers advanced to the state competition in Corpus Christi.
Destination Imagination (DI) is a problem solving educational organization with a mission to encourage and foster the development of 21st century skills: creativity, problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration; to help develop a positive self-image; and to prepare students to apply these skills to life decisions. By participating in DI, students learn and experience creativity and teamwork. The DI core program is educationally based in which student teams solve open-ended challenges through the use of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and fine arts. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the challenge.
