2022-23 Back to School Information
August 11, 2022
WISD Family,
We're so excited to welcome our students back to school on Wednesday for a wonderful 2022-23 school year at Wimberley ISD! We wanted to pass along several quick pieces of information prior to the first day of school to hopefully make everyone's first week smooth and successful.
School Safety and Security
WISD has been working through the summer on implementing safety and security measures as part of a continued effort to provide the safest possible environment for our students and staff. To help us communicate all the work that has been taking place, WISD will release several videos highlighting different aspects of our safety and security plans and processes. The first video can be accessed by pressing or clicking on the image below.
The most effective safety approach is multi-layered and is led by a shared responsibility among our staff, students, parents, and law enforcement/first-responder entities, and we are excited to share with you the progress that has been made this summer through our video series.
Bus Numbers and Routes Available Online
Last spring our Transportation Department officially launched the new SMART tag Parent Portal. The Portal allows parents to receive emails or text messages when their child is approximately 10-15 minutes from their stop, view a map showing their child’s bus location, and update authorized guardians. Also, if you registered your child for Transportation during enrollment you can already view your child’s bus number and route through the portal.
To begin the registration process visit parent.smart-tag.net online and enter in Wimberley ISD. (Tutorial here: English | Spanish). Then type in your child's WISD student ID number, birthday, and campus name. Once you've registered one child you can login and add additional children to your parent account. On your iOS (instructions) or Android (instructions) device(s) you can save the site as a web app to your home screen for easy access.
Temporary Suspension of Inter-Campus Bus Shuttle
We are experiencing bus driver staffing shortages currently that will require the district to temporarily suspend the inter-campus bus shuttle option until we are able to onboard additional bus drivers. In the past, students could ride between campuses to allow parents to pick up their children all at once at a single campus. Due to the shortage of drivers and the expectation of full buses, this option isn’t possible at this time. We are actively seeking applicants for bus driver positions and appreciate your help in encouraging others to join our WISD staff as a bus driver.
We anticipate this will create longer pick-up lines and apologize for the inconvenience this may create. It is our intention to bring back the shuttle route in the future when we have enough bus drivers to make it possible. Thank you for your understanding and your patience as we navigate this change.
Child Nutrition Updates
In the spring we notified parents that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was ending the free meal program after last school year. That means that for the 2022-23 school year, all meals will come at a cost. The full price meal costs are listed below. (Adult meal prices for staff and visitors are posted online here.)
Student Lunch Prices |
|
Blue Hole Primary |
$2.60 |
Jacob’s Well Elementary |
$2.85 |
Danforth Junior High |
$3.10 |
Wimberley High School |
$3.75 |
Student Breakfast Prices |
|
All Campuses |
$2.00 |
WISD families whose students qualify for free/reduced price meals will be able to submit an application to receive lower-cost meals. Families can submit the application here through the Titan student meal account system. Submitting your family’s application to the National School Lunch Program can do more than just qualify your students to receive free and reduced-price meals, it can also reduce testing and college application fees, may qualify you for discounted internet service, and provide other opportunities. You can learn more about that by checking out this flyer from the Texas Department of Agriculture.
WISD Webstore Credit Card Fees
Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, purchases made through WISD’s online webstore will be charged an additional 3.99% credit card processing fee. In the past, this processing fee was paid by WISD. A few items on the webstore will NOT have this fee attached to the base charge. These items are any Pre-K tuition or registration charges, any Kid Connection charges, and any donations made to the district. Examples of lower-priced items that will have the required processing fee are athletic fees, technology fees, library dues, etc. Parents do have the option to pay these fees via cash or check to completely avoid the credit card processing fee.
Community Partner Back to School Events
The Barnabas Connection is hosting its 2nd Annual Wimberley Community Back-to-School Celebration event on Saturday, August 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cypress Creek Church (211 Stillwater Rd.) The free event will have lunch, games, snow cones, door prizes, and information about family resources from community agencies.
The Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) will host a Back-To-School Fair on Monday, Aug. 15 at their office in San Marcos (401-A Broadway St., San Marcos). Childhood immunizations will be available at no cost for uninsured or underinsured children age 18 or younger at the fair. Vaccinations will also be available for those families with private insurance. (Insurance companies will be billed per the usual processes.) The HCLHD event, which runs from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Monday, also features face painting, animal balloons, games, and prizes.
Athletic Passes
Students in grades 7th-12th participating in athletics are required to pay an annual athletic fee. As an incentive students receive an all sports pass to gain entry into all regular season home games. Please claim your pass before the first event you attend or by September 30th. Digital tickets/passes are required for all events.
Digital Tickets to Athletics Events
All tickets will continue to be sold online for every athletic event held at WISD. Please prepare for events ahead of time by downloading the Hometown Ticketing Fan App or buying online at wimberleyisd.net/tickets. This will help keep check-in lines running smoothly.
Questions about athletic passes or tickets can be directed to adelina.neil@wimberleyisd.net.
