Off-Campus PE Program
The Off Campus Physical Education Program (OCPE) in Wimberley ISD is to accommodate students who are making a serious effort to develop higher-level skills in a specific activity that exceed what the school district can offer through the general physical education program.
The OCPE Program allows students in 6th through 12th grades to earn credits that meet the district and state physical education requirements. Students will be expected to be physically educated, along with being physically active. They will be expected to show accountability of skill development, learned physical activity and health concepts, and social development through participation in their selected physical activity and written and tested assignments that are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Physical Education.
Wimberley Independent School District shall award state graduation credits in high school or allow two (2) physical education course substitutions in middle school for participation in approved physical activities if the student is enrolled in a full-day schedule and meets at least one of the following criteria:
- The student participates in Olympic-level training or competition (Category I) supervised by a district approved vendor that meets the following minimum guidelines:
- The student is supervised a minimum of 15 hours per week with highly intensive professional training;
- The training facility, instructors, and activities of the program have been certified by the superintendent to be of exceptional quality and on the list approved annually.
- The students qualifying and participating at this level are dismissed from school no more than one period per day and do not miss any class other than physical education.
- The student participates in a private or commercially-sponsored physical activity supervised by a district approved vendor that is not Olympic-level (Category II) that meets the following minimum guidelines:
- The student participates in the physical activity for at least 5 hours per week; and
- The student is well supervised by appropriately trained instructors as determined by the superintendent and on the list approved annually; and
- The student certified to participate at this level is not dismissed from any part of the regular school day.
Once the OCPE vendor has been approved, students will be required to present attendance records and a grade to their campus registrar each six weeks. Application and approval are required each school year.
The approval window for the 2024-2025 school year opens on May 1, 2024 and runs through August 23, 2024.
