Out-of-District Transfer FAQs
May my student from outside of Wimberley ISD attend school at any of the WISD schools?
Yes. Wimberley ISD offers an excellent educational experience for students from the local community and also extends this opportunity to students throughout Hays County who want to work hard and be a productive part of the WISD Texan family.
Do I have to pay a fee to apply for an out-of-district slot at Wimberley ISD?
No. Wimberley ISD welcomes out-of-district students to apply and if accepted, to attend the district tuition-free.
As a Wimberley ISD taxpayer, do I have to pay for out-of-district students?
No. Wimberley ISD receives the same state funding for an out-of-district student as for a WISD student. There is no extra cost to local taxpayers.
Will out-of-district students affect my child’s opportunity to participate in WISD UIL activities?
No. All students who work hard, meet attendance and academic standards may compete for a slot in any UIL academic, athletic and campus extracurricular activities. The District encourages participation and tryouts by all students and welcomes a competitive spirt and good sportsmanship. However, out-of-district students will not be eligible to participate at the UIL Varsity level in athletics and/or academics until they have been enrolled for one calendar year at the District and met all eligibility and attendance standards to reapply to the District for a second year.
Are all out-of-district students accepted if they apply?
No. Wimberley ISD accepts out-of-district students on a case-by-case and a year-by-year basis. The District accepts a limited number of students per year, and students must reapply every year and remain in good standing to maintain enrollment in the District. The District reserves the right to deny any out-of-district student because of program availability, grade level spaces (class size), disciplinary history, academic performance, attendance (including tardies).
Does WISD provide bus transportation for out-of-district students?
No. At this time, WISD does not provide bus transportation to out-of-district students. The District will provide bus transportation for out-of-district students participating in UIL or school-sponsored activities.
Are out-of-district students causing overcrowding?
No. Wimberley ISD accepts a limited number of students per year and students must reapply every year and remain in good standing to maintain their spot in the District. The District reserves the right to deny any out-of-district student because of class size or space limitations. The District also reviews discipline and attendance history for each out-of-district application.
Why does WISD accept out-of-district students?
Wimberley ISD welcomes out-of-district students who are hard-working and have proven to be in good standing at their previous school because we offer an excellent school district with an A-rating from the TEA. As WISD enrollment increases, the amount of funds, the District has to pay back to the state as a Chapter 49 (Robin-Hood) district decreases, meaning more of our taxpayer dollars stay right here at WISD.
