Ashley Martinez, DJH School Resource Officer
Officer Martinez is a Freeport, Texas native who knew she wanted to be a police officer in the fourth grade when a female officer presented the D.A.R.E program. Her senior year of high school she knew she was not of age to go straight into policing, so she enlisted in the US Army. She became interested in the military after 9/11. She served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom overseas during her 7 years of active duty service.
When her tour of duty was complete in 2011, she moved to San Marcos and applied to attend the Hays County Sheriff’s Peace Officer Academy. Following seven months of rigorous training, she earned the title of certified peace officer. HCSO hired her on the force and assigned her to the patrol unit. She has worked as a patrol officer in Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Buda, Kyle, and San Marcos. She served the local area during the floods and appreciates the gracious, helpful and appreciative community of Wimberley. In March of 2018, she earned the Community Service award, including recognition by the Texas Secretary of State. Officer Martinez received her Bachelors of Arts and Sciences from Texas State University in May of 2023.
She says, "It is my duty to Wimberley ISD to ensure that you know your children are going to be in a safe environment and have that comfort that they are being taken care of and watched over. Hays County Sheriff’s Office provides and ensures that their school officers receive the best training for this career, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be at an awesome school like Danforth."
