Responsible Use Guidelines for Students
Wimberley ISD provides students with access to technology tools and digital resources to support learning, creativity, and communication. These guidelines help students understand how to use technology responsibly, respectfully, and safely at school and beyond.
These expectations apply whether you're using a Chromebook, a desktop, or any other school-provided device, and whether you're working at school or at home. When you use district technology, you're expected to follow these guidelines.
Students receive Wimberley ISD Google accounts to access tools like Google Classroom, Docs, Gmail, and more. These tools are intended for school use and are monitored for safety and instructional purposes.
Wimberley ISD uses internet filters and monitoring tools to help protect students from harmful content and support safe, productive learning. While no system is perfect, students are expected to use good judgment and report anything inappropriate or concerning. If you ever come across something online that seems unsafe, upsetting, or just wrong, report it to a teacher or trusted adult.
Responsible Use Expectations
All students are expected to:
- Use technology for schoolwork and learning
- Treat devices and equipment with care
- Keep usernames and passwords private
- Be respectful and kind when communicating online
- Visit only school-approved websites and applications
- Report anything that seems unsafe or inappropriate
- Follow directions from teachers and staff
- Avoid attempting to bypass internet filters or monitoring tools
- Never record, post, or share audio/video without permission
- Never impersonate someone else or use another person’s account
- Not access, copy, delete, or modify someone else’s work
- Avoid spreading harmful, threatening, or false content online
- Never share personal information
- Avoid downloading software, browser extensions, or apps without teacher approval
Using AI Tools
AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and others are only to be used when your teacher specifically allows it. Students should not use AI to complete assignments or generate content intended to be turned in as their own work. Plagiarism is a violation of the WISD Code of Conduct and will result in disciplinary action in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
Cyberbullying and Online Behavior
Cyberbullying—using technology to harm, embarrass, or threaten others—is strictly prohibited.
This includes sending mean messages, posting false information, or sharing photos or videos meant to
embarrass someone. If you see or experience this kind of behavior, report it to a teacher or administrator
immediately.
Communication online should reflect the same respect expected in person. Treat others with kindness, avoid
inappropriate language, and remember that your digital actions represent you—and can have long-term
consequences.
Consequences for Inappropriate Usage
Students who don’t follow these Responsible Use Guidelines may lose access to devices, accounts, or online
tools. In some cases, there may be disciplinary action or a requirement to pay for damage to district
equipment. Repeated or serious violations, such as attempting to hack systems or using technology to harm
others, will be addressed in accordance with the WISD Student Code of Conduct. Use of school owned
devices/networks is a privilege, not a right. Responsible use is paramount to student academic success.
