Dr. Greg Bonewald, Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Greg Bonewald has been the Wimberley ISD Superintendent since June 2022. At WISD, Dr. Bonewald oversees a staff of approximately 375 educators and support personnel that serve more than 2,600 students on four campuses in grades pre-K through 12th. As WISD Superintendent, Dr. Bonewald has strengthened community engagement through the creation of the Facility Needs and Ambassador Task Forces, guided the successful passage of four bond propositions in May 2025, and led the redesign of the district’s Strategic Plan. Under his leadership, the number of students earning college credits and industry-based certifications has grown significantly, and student achievement has risen across all grade levels. Dr. Bonewald has quickly earned a reputation as being a strong advocate for Wimberley teachers and students, as well as a champion for public education.

Prior to assuming the superintendent position at WISD, Dr. Bonewald served as Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Executive Director of HR at Victoria ISD for 8 years. Prior to that, Dr. Bonewald spent 14 years at Wimberley ISD, including seven years as Wimberley High School Principal (2007-2014). He was also an assistant principal at the high school and spent five years as a teacher/coach for the Texans.

Dr. Bonewald is married to his wife Wendy and has four children. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University in Austin, a Master of Education degree from Texas State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
