1999 Lady Texan Volleyball Team

The 1999 Lady Texan Volleyball team has the distinction of winning the first-ever team championship for Wimberley HS. The team was Coach Lee Grisham’s fourth at WHS and was coming off a state tournament appearance in 1998, where they were swept by eventual champion Caldwell. The ‘99 team finished with a 39-2 overall record and didn’t lose a set the entire playoff run, which included a semifinal sweep of Caldwell. The team defeated White Oak 15-7, 15-1 in the final, clinching the title. Senior Lacey Adkisson and junior Daneen Grisham were both named to the All-Tournament team. Members of the team were: Lacey Adkisson, Heather Best, Jamie Bonniwell, Amelia Byars, Julie Dahl, Daneen Grisham, Michaela Hartman, Natalie Heruska, Kristin Kirby, Kimberly Paisley, Megan Peterson, Brittany Stevens, Kasey Vogelsberg. The team was led by Head Coach Lee Grisham and assistants Doug Milner and Rikki Williamson Jones.

Lee Grisham

Lady Texan Volleyball Head Coach (1996-2011)

Lee Grisham served as the head coach of the Lady Texan Volleyball program for 15 years, leading the team to six state championships, nine state tournament appearances, and 14 district championships. He compiled a record of 495-111 at WHS (.816 winning percentage). He was named the Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association (2004), Texas Sports Writers Association (2001, 2002, 2006), Mizuno (Texas - 2003), LoneStarVolleyball.com (2003), and Cen-Tex Coach of the Year by the Austin American-Statesman (2003 and 2006). He was also selected as an All-Star Coach by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (1999, 2001). His overall record as a volleyball head coach was 559-183 (.753 winning percentage). He currently serves as the Assistant Executive Director of the Texas Girls Coaches Association. He has been married to his wife, Lauri for 23 years. They have 3 children, Jesi, Jacob and Daneen, and seven grandchildren.  

Lacey Adkisson Lambert

Basketball, Track and Field, Volleyball (Class of 2000)

Lacey Adkisson Lambert was on state qualifying teams in volleyball (1998, 1999 - State Champions) and basketball (2000). Was named the 1999 3A State Tournament MVP in volleyball. In track and field, she qualified for the state meet in both triple jump and high jump, winning gold in high jump as a sophomore. Adkisson Lambert remains the school record holder in high jump (5' 9"). After high school she competed in both volleyball and track and field at Tarleton State University and was inducted as a member of the Tarleton State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023. She is currently in her 20th year working in education, including the past 13 at Wimberley High School. She and her husband Wesley have four children: daughter Ryan (13); twins, Crockett and Jordan (9); and daughter, Hunter (7).

Kally Long McNeil

Basketball, Track and Field (Class of 2014)

Kally Long McNeil was a two-time 3A state gold medalist in pole vault for Wimberley HS. She qualified for the state meet in pole vault all four years of her high school career, finishing fourth as a freshman, second as a sophomore, and winning each of her final two years. Her clearance of 13’-2” in 2014 set a 3A state record. After high school she competed in pole vault for the University of Texas and was a five-time All-American and the 2018 Big 12 outdoor champion in the event. She has nine of the top 18 vaults in UT women’s pole vault history. She works as a sales coordinator for a tech company and also owns an online boutique. She is married to Parks, and has two sons, Jet (3) and Ace (1).

Brent Slaughter

Baseball, Football, Powerlifting, Track and Field (Class of 2002)

Brent Slaughter was a four-year letterman in football, excelling on both sides of the ball. He accumulated more than 3,800 yards rushing and 65 touchdowns on offense and racked up 702 career tackles and six interceptions on defense. He was named to All-District teams each year of his high school career, and was the 26-3A Defensive MVP in both his junior and senior seasons. He was named Honorable Mention All-State at the conclusion of the junior and senior seasons and Honorable Mention All-America as a senior. He was a member of the first WHS team to start the season 10-0 (2000) and was a part of three district championships (1998, 2000, 2001). As a sophomore he was part of a school-record setting 4x100 meter relay team on the track, a mark which stood for 25 years. After high school he earned a scholarship to play football at Texas Tech University, lettering all four years and playing in 48 consecutive games. He lives in New Braunfels and owns a roofing company in Schertz. He is married to his college sweetheart, Callan Christianson Slaughter and has three kids: Palmer (10), Baron (10), and Cohen (5). 

Blake Stevens

Baseball, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Track and Field (Class of 1994)

Blake Stevens was a multi-sport standout for WHS. He received the school’s Athlete of the Year award three times and was also its football offensive MVP. In addition to his exploits on the football field he was also a regional qualifier in track and field and tennis. In 1993, he helped lead the Texans to the best football season in the program’s history up to that point. The Texans had never advanced past the second round of the 2A playoffs, but Stevens led the team to a berth in the state semifinals - narrowly losing that game by two points. The ‘93 team finished with a 13-2 record, which stood as the best season in school history until the ‘05 state championship team. Stevens went on to play football at Wheaton College in Illinois where he was a three-time All-Conference selection and the team MVP in 1997. He now works in construction and development and he and his wife Amber have three kids: Asher (17), Jude (16), and Evelyn (12).
