Accountability

District Accountability Rating

Like all other public school districts, charters, and schools, Wimberley ISD is provided annual academic accountability ratings by the state of Texas. The ratings are based on performance on state standardized tests; graduation rates; and college, career, and military readiness outcomes. The ratings examine student achievement, school progress, and whether districts and campuses are closing achievement gaps among various student groups.

In September 2023, the WISD Board of Trustees, along with approximately 120 other districts, voted to approve a resolution to join in a lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The purpose of the legal action was to challenge TEA’s implementation of a significantly revamped A-F accountability system that was planned to be applied retroactively in grading school districts’ performances for the prior 2022-2023 school year. WISD joined the lawsuit to ensure the TEA is accountable to what the Texas Education Code requires of it, and to request fairness in the design and implementation of an accountability system that assigns a public “grade” to reflect the achievements of our students, teachers, and community. WISD believes the TEA’s proposed new accountability rating system was already in violation of the existing Texas Education Code. Section 39.0542 states that “each school year, the commissioner shall provide each school district a document in a simple, accessible format that explains the accountability performance measures, methods, and procedures that will be applied for that school year in assigning each school district and campus a performance rating….” However, in September 2023, months after the conclusion of the 2022-23 school year, the TEA had yet to finalize the accountability system for the prior year, much less communicate information to WISD and others.

In October 2023, a judge agreed with WISD and others, and ordered the TEA not to release its annual A-F school ratings. The TEA appealed the decision and the resolution to the lawsuit remains in the court system (June 2024).

Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR)

The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics. TAPR reports for previous school years not posted below can be found on TEA's TAPR page.

The TAPR was previously known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Reports. Those reports were published from 2003–04 to 2011–12. They may be found at the AEIS Archive.

School Report Cards

The school report card (SRC) combines accountability ratings, data from the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), and financial information to give a broad view of campus performance. Available for each campus in Texas, the SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a school’s individual characteristics and its academic performance. Visit the TEA website for a more comprehensive look at the Accountability Rating. For your convenience, here is a list of the Wimberley ISD TEA report cards by overall district and by individual campus:
