Nutrition in the Wimberley Child Nutrition Program

The following items have been done to improve the nutritional content and quality of the meals being served to students.
  • Purchase 85% lean ground beef and thoroughly drain it after cooking
  • Serve reduced fat cheeses including slices, grated and even on pizza and in lasagna
  • Offer only skim milk and 1% white, 1% chocolate, and 1% strawberry milk
  • Do not fry any foods such as French fries or chicken nuggets, burritos etc.
  • Offer fruit and vegetable selections daily including fresh ones (seasonally varies)
  • Purchase 98% lean turkey breast and lean turkey ham
  • Purchase reduced fat versions of many traditional popular items
  • Utilize fat free gravies
  • Sell only baked and reduced fat chip products that contain less then 7.5 grams of fat per bag
  • In some campuses utilize whole wheat hamburger buns and whole wheat bread
  • Comply with all aspects of the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy
  • Comply with all aspects of the United States Department of Agriculture regulations relating to the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program
